BANANA FLOWER PORIYAL / VALAIPOO PORIYAL

                                                              Banana flower  / Valai poo poriyal is a healthy dish.The process of cleaning takes time, but after finished that part it is a simple procedure. banana flowers are  rich in vitamin E. Using Banana flower you can do lots of dishes like vada, kootu ,soup etc.

Ingredients
Banana flower – 1
turmeric powder – 1/4  teaspoon
Curry leaves
Salt – to taste
To Temper
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard – 3/4 teaspoon
Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
To Grind
Shredded  coconut – 3 teaspoon
Redchilli – 2
Cumin seed – 1 teaspoon

Method
Cleaning the banana flower is a big process, you can cut and immerse it in the buttermilk water overnight for the next day preparation.

Hold the bunch of flower and remove the two parts in each flower shown in the figure below.

Finely chop the banana flower and immerse it in the buttermilk.Next day morning wash the banana flower and drain the water completely.

Bring water to boil and put the banana flower and cook it  with turmeric powder. Water just to immerse is enough. It gets cooked quickly with in 10 to 15 minutes.

Drain the water completely. Grind the ingredients given above in the column “To Grind” without adding water.

Temper the ingredients given above in the column “To temper” and add the banana flower along with the grinded coconut.

Fry it for 5 minutes and add curry leaves and salt to taste.

Ingredients

  • Gram flour/Kadalai mavu – 3 cups
  • Rice flour – 1/2 cup
  • Omam – 2 tsp
  • Oil - 1/2 ltr (To fry)
  • Salt as per taste

Preparation Method

1.Soak omam in a cup of water for half an hour.Grind it like paste.

2.Add Slightly water into the omam paste and extract the omamwater.

3.In a vessel mix gram flour,rice flour and 2 tsp of omam water.Mix it well like a dough.This mixture does not too watery nor too solid.

4.Heat 1/2 litre oil in a pan.After 5 min,put a small piece of dough,Check it will comes to up.now oil has heated properly.
5.In omapodi maker,keep this dough.Press it in a circular motion on the oil which we was heated.

6.Fry it well.Take it out and serve it.
7.Now omapodi is ready to taste.
