ONION TOMATO CHUTNEY

Recipe Highlights
One of the side dish for Idli,Dosa or chapatti.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 15 Mins
Onion -2
Tomato -3
Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
Oil- 2 teaspoon
Hing – a pinch
Redchilli – 2 to 3 (For More spice add one more)
Curry leaves and coriander leaves
Salt - to taste

Method
Step :1
Heat oil in a pan and add redchilli and saute it for 10 seconds and remove it from the oil.

Step 2:

Then in the same pan add urad and saute it till it comes to golden brown then add onions.
When it comes to transparent add tomatoes and hing and saute it till gets mushy.
Finally add curry leaves and coriander leaves and fry it for a minute.(you can also add very little mint leaves)
Let them cool for  some time.And grind it in a mixer along with redchilli and salt.

Onion Tomato chutney is now ready to serve.

PULI MILAGAI/TAMARIND MILAGAI PACHADI

Recipe Highlights
Puli milaga is a tangy and spicy side dish for curd rice.I love it more.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 10 - 15Mins
Tamarind – Big lemon size
Green chili – 15 to 20 nos
Small onions/shallots- 250 g
Oil – 4 to 6 tsp
Salt - to taste


Method
Step :1
soak tamarind in 2 cups of hot water for half an hour

Chop small onions finely.
 
Step 3:

Then grind all the chilies here and there.(without adding water).

Step 4:
Heat 4 to 5 tsp of oil in a pan.Add chopped onions first. saute it for few seconds.

Step 5:
Now add the ground chili paste into it.Saute it well.

Step 6:
Extract the tamarind water from the soaked tamarind and discard the pulp.Add the tamarind water into the above.Add sufficient salt into it.Stir it now and then.

Step 7:
Let it allow to boil till the gravy thickens.
 
 
Puli milaga  is now ready to serve.

COCONUT CHUTNEY

Ingredients
To Grind
Shredded coconut – 1/2 cup
Green chilli – 2 to 3
Fried Gram – 2 teaspoon
Water – as required
Salt – to taste
To Temper
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard and urad dal – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves
Method
Grind the ingredients given above in the column “To Grind “ with enough water.

Temper the ingredients given above in the column “To Temper”

Add the tempered things in to the coconut paste.Add curry leaves and mix it well.

COCONUT CHUTNEY USING REDCHILLI

Ingredients
To Grind
Shredded coconut – 1/2 cup
Red chilli – 1 or 1 1/2
Tamarind – a small piece
Garlic – 1 piece
Water – as required
Salt – to taste
To Temper
Oil – 1 teaspoon
Mustard and urad dal – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves
Method
Grind the ingredients given above in the column “To Grind “ with enough water.(One redchilli is enough,if you want more spicy then add one more half chilli.)

Temper the ingredients given above in the column “To Temper” and mix it with the coconut.

ONION CHUTNEY


 
      Onion chutney is a perfect match for idli/dosa.This is one of the method for preparing onion chutney. It is simply a spicy and tastiest side dish forever.
Ingredients
  • Small onions – 300 g
  • Red chili – 5 to 6
  • Sesame oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  • Hing – a pinch
  • Tamarind – a little(check the size in the picture given below)
  • Salt as per taste

TOMATO KICHADI

Tomato kichadi is the one of best side dish for idly/dosa which is also good alternate for sambar.This dish has rich flavor from tomato which gives good taste while eat with idly.  Try this dish with soft idly/dosa for breakfast/dinner.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 20 Mins
  1. Onion-2
  2. Tomato-2(large size)
  3. (Onion and tomato must be equal in quantity)
  4. Mustard and Urad dal-1 1/2 tsp
  5. Hing -1/4 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  7. Water-3 cups
  8. Salt- to taste
Pressure Cook it:


To Grind
  • Coconut-4 tsp
  • Green chili-3 to 4

Method
Step :1
Heat the pan with  oil and add mustard and urad dal to it.

Add onion,turmeric powder,hing and curry leaves. Saute it for 5 mins.

Add tomato and saute it for few mins. Add water and cook it.

Grind the ingredients given under the section"to grind"column and mix it with the contents of the pan. Boil it for 5 min.

PIRANDAI THUVAIYAL

DSC_1210 Pirandai thuvaiyal was introduced to me by my mother-in-law.While she prepared it first time ,i think a lot to taste it But when i taste this,i just wondered.It is more healthier and tastiest side dish for curd rice.Once you taste it,you cant leave it. Pirandai has more medicinal values.It is believed to help heal broken bones.

Ingredients

  • Piradai – a bunch.
  • Red chili – 15 (small)
  • Urad dal – 2 tsp
  • Tamarind -  a little (check the figure given below)
  • salt as per taste

Preparation Method

1.First apply sesame oil in your hand to cut pirandai (to avoid itching)
2.Cut the pirandai into small pieces.
3.Heat oil in pan.fry pirandai,red chilies,urad dal one by one till it changes the color.
4.Let it allow to cool.Grind it with tamarind and salt.
