OMAPODI

Ingredients

  • Gram flour/Kadalai mavu – 3 cups
  • Rice flour – 1/2 cup
  • Omam – 2 tsp
  • Oil - 1/2 ltr (To fry)
  • Salt as per taste

Preparation Method

1.Soak omam in a cup of water for half an hour.Grind it like paste.

2.Add Slightly water into the omam paste and extract the omamwater.

3.In a vessel mix gram flour,rice flour and 2 tsp of omam water.Mix it well like a dough.This mixture does not too watery nor too solid.

4.Heat 1/2 litre oil in a pan.After 5 min,put a small piece of dough,Check it will comes to up.now oil has heated properly.
5.In omapodi maker,keep this dough.Press it in a circular motion on the oil which we was heated.

6.Fry it well.Take it out and serve it.
7.Now omapodi is ready to taste.

CHILLI PAROTTA

                                              One of the popular dish in TamilNadu . Chilli parotta is a cooked with plain parotta and spicy ingredients. I used frozen parotta here.
Ingredients
Frozen Parotta – 2 nos.
Onion – 1
Tomato – 1
Green chilli – 3
Capsicum – 1/4
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Ginger garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Chilli powder – 3/4 teaspoon
Red Chilli sauce – 1/4 teaspoon
Red color powder – a pinch
Salt – to taste.
Coriander leaves.
Method
Toast the parotta in a pan and cool it for some minutes and cut into small pieces.
Chop the onion,tomato, capsicum and green chillies.

Heat the oil in a pan and add onions and saute it with little salt.when it comes to a transparent add ginger garlic paste and saute it till the raw smell goes off.

Now add curry leaves,green chilli and turmeric powder fry it for few seconds then add tomatoes and capsicum.

Fry it for 5 minutes with chilli powder, chilli sauce and salt.Add a pinch of red color.

Add coriander leaves.Add the cut parotta and mix it in a low flame.

Chilli parotta is now ready to serve.

WATERMELON JUICE

                                        Watermelon juice is the perfect juice for summer.
Ingredients
Watermelon  - 2 cups (chopped)
Sugar – as needed
Method
Slice the watermelon in half. Remove the seeds. Slice the halves into smaller pieces and scoop out the chunks of the watermelon flesh in to the mixer.

Blend the watermelon and sugar and make fine juice.

Extract the juice using strainer.

Pour the watermelon juice into glasses.

Watermelon juice is ready to taste.Serve with ice cubes if u wish.

LEMON IDIYAPPAM/LEMON SEVAI

Lemon Idiyappam is very easy to prepare and more tasty.We can prepare this within 5 min.

Ingredients

Prepared Idiyappam – 5 pieces
Oil – 3 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Bengal gram/kadalai paruppu- 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Red chili – 3 to 4
Lemon – 1 (small size)
Salt as per taste

Preparation method

1.First loosen the strings of the Idiyappam as shown in the picture.

2.Pinch  the red chili as shown in the figure.

3.Heat oil in a pan.Add mustard seeds first.When it spluttered,add bengal gram and the red chili.
4.When the bengal gram color  changes into golden brown,add turmeric powder.

5.Now add the loosen strings into the kadai. Sauté it gently for few seconds

6.Add slightly salt and squeeze lemon to extract the juice on the surface.saute it well for 2 min.

7.Now lemon Idiyappam/sevai is ready to taste.

TOMATO KICHADI

Recipe Highlights
Tomato kichadi is the one of best side dish for idly/dosa which is also good alternate for sambar.This dish has rich flavor from tomato which gives good taste while eat with idly.  Try this dish with soft idly/dosa for breakfast/dinner.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 20 Mins
  1. Onion-2
  2. Tomato-2(large size)
  3. (Onion and tomato must be equal in quantity)
  4. Mustard and Urad dal-1 1/2 tsp
  5. Hing -1/4 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
  7. Water-3 cups
  8. Salt- to taste
Pressure Cook it:


To Grind
  • Coconut-4 tsp
  • Green chili-3 to 4

Method
Step :1
Heat the pan with  oil and add mustard and urad dal to it.

Step 2:
Add onion,turmeric powder,hing and curry leaves. Saute it for 5 mins.

Step 3:

Add tomato and saute it for few mins. Add water and cook it.

Step 4:

Grind the ingredients given under the section"to grind"column and mix it with the contents of the pan. Boil it for 5 min.

Finally add salt and coriander leaves.
