| Method |  | 
 | Step :1 First cook the raw rice along with water in a pressure cooker for 5 to 6 whistles.

 | Step 2: 
 Then add 1 cup of water along with jaggery/vellam and let it allow to boil till the jaggery dissolves well.Now syrup is ready.

 | Step 3: Now smash the rice well and add 4 tsp of ghee to it.
 |   | 
 | Step 4: 
 Heat ghee in a pan.fry cashew till it turns to golden brown.
 |   | 
 | Step 5: Add cashews to the smashed rice.
 |   | 
 | Step 6: Now filter the jaggery syrup and add it to the above.
 |   | 
 | Step 7: Let it allow to boil and stir it continuously for few seconds.
 |   | 
 | Step 8:
 Add  4 tsp of ghee and switch off the flame.
 |   | 
 | Sweet pongal  is now ready to serve.
