SWEET PUFFED RICE BALLS (PORI URUNDAI)

Recipe Highlights
Karthigai deepam is a festival of lights and we prepared this pori urundai on that day.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 20  Mins
Puffed rice – 3 cups
Jaggery – 1 cup
Water – 1/4 cup
To Fry Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Sesame seeds – 1 teaspoon
Roasted gram  or pottukadalai – 2 teaspoon
Sliced coconut – 2 teaspoon
Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon

Method
Step :1
Add jaggery, water  in a pan and dissolve it .
Strain the jaggery water to remove impurities.
Now boil the jaggery water.Take a bowl filled with water.Now check the consistency by take jaggery syrup and put it in a water,It should stand firm and not dissolve and it should form a ball (uruttu padham).Now switch off the flame.

Step 2: 

Take another pan add ghee and roast the ingredients given below in the column “To Fry” ,adding one by one and fry it till it becomes golden brown.

Step 3: 

Add the roasted ingredients in puffed rice and also add the jaggery and mix it well.
Grease your palms with ghee and roll them into tight balls.
Store it in a airtight container.

Sweet puffed rice balls is now ready to taste.

MAA VILLAKU (TRADITIONAL METHOD)

Recipe Highlights
Traditional method of making Maavillaku.
Ingredients Cooking Time : 15 Mins
Raw rice – 1 cup
Jaggery – 3/4 cup
Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Ghee – 1 tablespoon
 

Method
Step :1
Soak the raw rice for 1 hour and drain the water completely and spread the rice in a towel and allow it to dry for 1 hour.

Step 2:

Then put the rice in a mixer and grind it to a fine powder.Sieve it.Add jaggery and cardamom powder and mix it well.
Keep it aside for 10 minutes,the jaggery leaves little water.
Now start rolling the flour like a ball.Press in center and put a hole in it and pour ghee on it and lit the lamp

Maa villaku is now ready.
